KEY POINTS:

· Parents and educators should have a voice in the conversation about reopening school. · The CDC’s recommendations will not meet the social, emotional and educational needs of our children. · School needs to re-open in the fall in Monroe County with in-person learning. · We pay taxes for a public education, not a hybrid, home education. · School needs to re-open in the fall without mask requirements. · There is lack of transmissibility of COVID-19 in children. https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/69/wr/mm6914e4.htm · Current advice from the World Health Organization on the use of masks: “There is limited evidence that wearing a medical mask by healthy individuals in the households or among contacts of a sick patient, or among attendees of mass gatherings may be beneficial as a preventive measure. However, there is currently NO evidence that wearing a mask (whether medical or other types) by healthy persons in the wider community setting, including universal community masking, can prevent them from infection with respiratory viruses, including COVID-19. https://www.who.int/…/advice-on-the-use-of-masks-in-the-com… · Long-term mask wearing is unacceptable. https://www.msn.com/…/7-long-term-side-effects…/ss-BB15mbx2…
